On this Earth day, we are celebrating that the solar energy industry has passed 1 million installations! This achievement reflects a great awakening in the United States to the amazing benefits of solar. Every day more and more people realize that going solar is not just a matter of helping the planet but is a safe and rewarding investment. Now more than one million people in the U.S. are enjoying clean, low cost, abundant solar power! The following article from energy.gov illustrates more about this achievement
Today GreenTech Media announced that the U.S. solar energy industry passed 1 million installations sometime around the end of February. This news comes as solar continues to represent a major and growing share of the new generation that comes online across the U.S.
Additionally, it is expected that the next million installations will be placed in the next two years. The exponential growth in solar has been driven by the significant drop in prices, driven by our work in the SunShot Initiative. By the end of the decade, we are on track to meet our goal of making solar fully cost-competitive with traditional forms of energy throughout the country.
This week, the solar community kicks off its Million Solar Strong celebration to commemorate this occasion. In addition to some in-person events in Washington, D.C. and elsewhere, there will a big social media push on Tuesday, May 3rd.
